Terri O Show Live

We are now Live with Terri O Show .  Just click on the link and listen to Claudia and Terri O.

It was a lot of fun, and we were live to a lot of new sewers.  Sewing is a lost art and it is very important that we share, and encourage the younger generation to enjoy sewing as a chic event for their lifestyles.

I just finished sewing camp for kids, what fun.  I had 5 new sewers this summer and it will be interesting to see where they go with the needle and tread.

Please share your sewing experiences with us and the younger generation.

Toxic Shower Curtains

What do you know about your polyvinyl chloride (pvc) shower curtain?  Most shower curtains are made of this product and it is one of the nastiest of all consumer plastics.   Producing it is energy-intensive, and the manufacturing releases carcinogenic dioxins and other harmful chemicals into the atmosphere.  According to Christie Matheson in "Green Chic,"  About seven pounds of PVC are discarded annually in the United States and most recycling facilities won't accept it, because recycling it is highly labor-intensive and potentially hazardous.

What is your favorite sewing machine?

I have been using the Janome 1600p since last February and love it.  I'm not a quilter and I quilted a reverse pillow sham for a clients bedspread and it was great!  Amazing

Making slipcovers with it takes the worry out of sewing.  Just finished a 14% denim slipcover for a love seat.  With over 8 layers of fabric to sew through the machine never slowed down.  My favorite feature is the thread cutter, just a click and not strings attached.

Sunsuede - Recycled Plastic Bottles

Sensuede® and Flannelsuede® high performance fabrics were developed to be the best and most luxurious faux suedes for home furnishings. They are manufactured with the latest technology using microfibers that are derived from recycled plastic bottles. Sensuede is the ecological choice in engineered suedes. Flannelsuede has all the features of Sensuede, but with the heathery look of a wool flannel fabric.

Sensuede has many applications, including furniture for dining rooms, kitchens, family rooms, offices, yachts and sailboats, RVs, and many types of accessories. It upholsters beautifully and is one of our favorite choices for dining room chairs.

What makes Sensuede so special?

A soft, elegant touch.
You can immediately feel the difference -- a soft, smooth, drapable texture. Sensuede's luxurious hand is due to the use of recycled microfibers that are finer than a human hair. However, these fibers are extra-strong, resulting in a very resilient fabric. Sensuede is breathable and wrinkle resistant, so it's comfortable to sit on.

Easy to clean and washable.
Sensuede is water, stain and soil resistant. Most spills simply bead up on the surface and can be blotted off, or spot cleaned with a damp cloth or soap and water -- even ground-in chocolate cake comes right out! Sensuede can also be machine washed or dry-cleaned. Sensuede is resistant to mildew and is not attractive to moths.

Engineered to last.
Sensuede and Flannelsuede surpass the heavy-duty upholstery abrasion test -- that's more than 75,000 double rubs! So it's perfect for everyday use. Unlike less expensive imitations, the strength of Sensuede is inherent in the product, so it does not require a backing. Some faux suedes may lose resiliency over time, but Sensuede will remain beautiful through years of use. Sensuede will not shrink, pill or crock and resists fading in normal residential settings.

Versatile.
80 colors, Sensuede and Flannelsuede can be used for home theatre seating, bedding, pillows, bar stools, formal dining room chairs, family room upholstery and much more.

Nature-Fil™ Batting, Fiberfill and Pillow forms

Quilters and crafters seeking eco-friendly, sustainable alternatives to traditional batting, pillow forms and fiberfill now have the alternatives and selection they're looking for available from Fairfield.  The Nature-Fil line is the result of years of research that have gone into the discovery and development of natural fibers that deliver outstanding results and superior performance.

Currently Nature-Fil  includes products developed from two types of renewable fiber: PLA Corn  and Bamboo.

Nature-Fil Corn fiberfill is a hypoallergenic fiber made from poly lactic acid derived from natural corn sugars.

Nature-Fil Bamboo products are made of a soft, naturally antibacterial fiber derived from bamboo plants - a sustainable, environmentally friendly and rapid growing crop that is grown without harmful pesticides and fertilizers.

Innovation is ongoing as we continue to study renewable resources
